According to reports, SK Hynix has successfully completed the acquisition of Intel's NAND flash memory division, concluding a transaction process that spanned four years. The acquired assets will be integrated into SK Hynix's U.S. subsidiary, Solidigm, to enhance research and development collaboration in enterprise-grade solid-state drives (SSDs).

According to Korean media reports, the acquisition is valued at approximately $8.85 billion. Through the development of innovative operational strategies, SK Hynix aims to expand its enterprise SSD business and strengthen its position within the NAND market.

The acquisition was initially announced in October 2020, when Intel and SK Hynix revealed a $9 billion agreement for the sale of Intel's NAND flash memory business. The transaction was structured in two phases. In 2021, SK Hynix, through Solidigm, paid $6.61 billion to acquire Intel's manufacturing facility in Dalian, China, along with its SSD business. However, Intel retained ownership of intellectual property, research and development resources, and key personnel until the final stage of the transaction.

In 2025, SK Hynix completed the acquisition by making the final payment of $2.24 billion, securing full ownership of all related assets. Following the completion of the deal, Solidigm is now fully responsible for operational management, paving the way for more efficient growth and development.

Industry analysts suggest that SK Hynix's recent expansion indicates a strategic move to leverage the growing demand for enterprise SSD products. Reports indicate that major companies like Google and Meta are undertaking extensive upgrades to their data center infrastructure. According to local media, SK Hynix intends to capitalize on this trend by enhancing its market position and utilizing artificial intelligence to drive innovation and growth.
